In the book Catching Fire, the acts of defiance triggered snow to make the games in the first place. These acts of rebellion lead to their punishment of the games. Also, fun fact, each 25 years, they have a quarter quell "celebration" of the anniversary of the games. And it offers a wicked twist. Now, back to the acts of defiance.
On page.236, Katniss wanted to "break through the smug veneer of those who use their brains to find amusing ways to kill us. To make them realize that while were vulnerable to the capitols cruelties, they are as well." This act was defiant because she wanted to do something about what was going on with the games and all because she knows its wrong. But unfortunately, rebellion or that kind of thinking is not allowed. Also because she was sending a message to the game makers. This message was that not even them are safe because snow can kill them as well.
In the text on page.256, Peeta says, "I'm not glad. I wish we waited until the whole thing was done officially. This takes Caesar a back. He says, surely a brief time is better than no time. "Maybe I'd think that too Caesar, If it weren't for the baby." If you were reading the book, then you would know that they were at their interviews. Peeta told Caesar that they were having a baby. This act was defiant because Peeta made the capitol citizens want to stop the games because then they would think that Katniss had a baby.
On page.250, even the tributes were defiant. This was because they reminded capitol citizens that the tributes of the games were going to get killed. Also that the people/victors that they have loved will die in the arena and that Snow could change it but he doesn’t care.Katniss also reminds everyone that there is no longer a wedding due to the games. In the text, one tribute talks/cries about how the capitol will miss them. "Cashmere starts the ball rolling with a speech about how she just cant stop crying when she thinks about how much the people in the capitol must be suffering that they will lose us."
On page.252, we can see that Cinna turned Katniss's wedding dress into a Mockingjay. The text says, "Cinna must be behind whatever is happening...because Cinna has turned me into a Mockingjay." This act was defiant because he turned the dress that Snow designed into a symbol of rebellion on national television. Snow doesn’t like the Mockingjay because it because it brings back the Jabberjay that he made. Which later made the Mockingjay, and then became a symbol of love hope and peace. That really makes Snow mad because he wants to have all the power and control.
I personally think that all of the tributes uniting together and showing unity was the most defiant act. That shows that they are united as districts. Snows games are to show that he is more powerful that the districts. But on the other hand, they are showing unity. So we will sew who wins that one!
