In the book
Catching Fire there are several acts of defiance; acting out against authority.
Katniss' act of
defiance occurred in her private session before the games. Katniss hung a dummy
with Seneca Cranes name on it. On page 237 she says "Then I step away
quickly to watch the reaction on the game makers face as they read the name on
the dummy ….. Seneca Crane." This was rebellious because she was reminding
them that nobody is safe, it was also rebellious because he died as a result of
her action.
Peeta was defiant during
his interview when he agrees with Caesar Flickerman that a brief time to be
married is better than no time "if it weren't for the baby". This is
defiant because he is trying to encourage the audience to turn against the
games and snow.
The tribute's act of
defiance happened during the interviews when they all united hands. Katniss
says " they didn’t cut us off in time , everyone has seen." This is
rebellious because the tributes are expected to fight in the games and you can’t
kill each other if your all allies.
Cinna's act of
defiance happened during the interviews as well when he turned Katniss' wedding
dress that snow hand picked out and designed in to a mocking jay. Katniss says
"Or should I say my wings because Cinna has turned me in to a mocking
jay"….."suddenly, I am so afraid for him". This is rebellious
because they used president snows judgment and turned it against him.
In conclusion I
feel President Snow would consider Peeta the most defiant because he tried to
make the audience turn on the games and President Snow by telling them him and Katniss
were married and Katniss is pregnant.
